Heydar Aliyev Foundation restores Saatli Mosque in Shusha

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening ceremony of the restored Saatli Mosque in Shusha on Monday. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation funded the restoration of the mosque, which was built in 1883 on the basis of a project by Karbalayi Safikhan Garabaghi but was destroyed during the years of Armenian occupation. Renovation work began in December 2021 and was carried out by Azerbaijani, Italian, and Turkish firms under the supervision of Austria’s Wehdorn Architekten company. During the opening ceremony, President Aliyev and First Lady Aliyeva were briefed on the work that had been done, and they planted a tree in the mosque’s yard.
