Hungary and Türkiye Strengthen Ties as a Bridge between East and West
The presidential Sándor Palace released a statement on Thursday highlighting the strong relationship between Hungary and Türkiye. President Tamás Sulyok’s visit to Ankara was met with military honours and a warm welcome from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
During their meeting, the presidents emphasized the shared history, deep friendship, and strategic alliance between Hungary and Türkiye. Both countries are committed to further deepening their cooperation in areas such as energy, security policy, defense industry, and economic and cultural relations.
The Hungarian-Turkish Cultural Season, which took place this year under the theme “A century of friendship and cooperation,” provided a platform for dialogue and strengthening ties between the two nations. In 2025, the focus will shift to the Hungarian-Turkish Year of Science and Innovation, promoting joint research projects and the exchange of innovative practices.
Hungary considers Türkiye to be a key strategic partner for the European Union in various areas, including energy security, trade, regional security, and combating terrorism and illegal migration. The EU presidency, currently held by Hungary, is committed to supporting Türkiye’s accession process and addressing migration challenges effectively.
Stability in the Middle East is of mutual interest to both Hungary and Türkiye, with a focus on preventing extremist ideologies and protecting the rights of religious communities and minorities. Hungary also provides humanitarian aid to the region, particularly to Christian communities in need.
Following the official talks, President Erdogan hosted a state dinner for President Sulyok and the Hungarian prime minister, followed by a gala concert as part of the Hungarian-Turkish Cultural Season. The event was attended by approximately 1,900 guests, further showcasing the strong cultural ties between the two countries.
