Hungary to Send Second Astronaut into Space on Axiom Space Mission
Hungary has reached an agreement with the US company Axiom Space to send the second Hungarian astronaut into space on their upcoming Ax-4 mission. Orsolya Ferencz, Ministerial Commissioner for Space Research, made the announcement, stating that during the mission, the astronaut will spend 14 days aboard the International Space Station (ISS) conducting scientific experiments.
The main objective of this mission is to advance Hungary’s space sector and strengthen its competitive position in the rapidly growing space industry of the 21st century. The exact launch date of the mission is yet to be determined and will be decided jointly by Axiom Space and NASA.
Specialists from the HUNOR program will work closely with partners and Axiom Space to ensure the successful preparation and execution of the scientific experiments. The scientific portfolio has been developed through collaborations with national science workshops, universities, research institutes, and space industry companies.
Apart from preparing the scientific content, the astronaut and his backup, both selected by HUNOR’s experts, will undergo mission-specific training in the United States. This training is crucial for the success of the mission and the safety of the crew.
This mission marks a significant milestone for Hungary’s space exploration efforts and demonstrates the country’s commitment to advancing its presence in the global space industry. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting space mission.
