Hungary Set to Build the Region’s Biggest Virtual Film Studio

Hungary is building the largest virtual film studio in Central and Eastern Europe, which is set to be completed by the first quarter of 2024. The €11 million project is located in Fót, Pest County, and the foundation stone was recently laid. According to Bence Tuzson, Secretary of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and MP for the region, Hungary has become a major film industry center in Europe after London, with film production accounting for a significant share of the country’s economic output. The virtual technology, which eliminates the need to travel the world and allows the entire film to be shot in a studio, also reduces the ecological footprint of film production. Almost 70% of films planned to be produced are set to use virtual technology. Szabolcs Botond, CEO of the contractor company Visual Europe Group, stated that this technology is the future of film production. Additionally, the National Film Institute’s new studio is also being built in Fót, with the two investments complementing each other.
