IMF’s Chief Urges Uzbekistan to Accelerate WTO Membership
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva has stressed the importance of Uzbekistan accelerating its membership to the World Trade Organization (WTO) as a means of integrating into the global economy. At a meeting with students of higher education institutions in the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, Georgieva outlined her views on Uzbekistan’s ongoing reforms, stating that liberalizing business activities was key to strong growth, followed by WTO membership and flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing times. Georgieva highlighted the potential for innovative growth in Uzbekistan and called on the country to create an enabling environment that encourages individuals and companies to push boundaries, even if there may be losses to begin with.
