Introducing Children’s SIM Cards in Kazakhstan: Progress Report from Orient

Kazakhstan Introduces Children’s SIM Cards to Protect Against Online Content
Kazakhstan is taking a step forward in safeguarding children online with the development of children’s SIM cards. This initiative aims to protect children from accessing unwanted content on the internet. Edil Ospan, the Vice Minister of Education, shared that these specialized SIM cards will restrict access to certain websites and social media platforms, giving parents the ability to monitor their child’s mobile device usage.
To register for the SIM card, children will need to provide their individual identification number (IIN) and birth certificate number. In addition, a mobile application will offer geolocation services, allowing parents to track their child’s whereabouts.
With these measures in place, Kazakhstan is prioritizing the safety and well-being of its youngest citizens in the digital sphere.
