IOC Approves Inclusion of Five Sports in 2028 Olympics Program
The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Executive Committee has announced the inclusion of five additional sports in the program for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The approved sports are flag football, cricket, lacrosse, squash, and baseball/softball.
IOC Chairman, Thomas Bach, expressed his excitement about the inclusion of these sports, stating that they are in line with American sports culture and will provide an opportunity to showcase iconic American sports to the world. Additionally, Bach believes that the inclusion of these sports will allow the Olympic Movement to connect with new communities of athletes and fans in the United States and around the globe.
The decision to include these sports was made during a meeting of the IOC Executive Committee in Mumbai. It follows the IOC’s preliminary program announcement in February 2022, which included a total of 28 sports for the 2028 Summer Games. The final competition program and the allocation of quotas for additional sports will be determined at a later date.
The 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles will be held from July 14 to July 30. The addition of flag football, cricket, lacrosse, squash, and baseball/softball is expected to bring a fresh dynamic to the event, attracting a wide range of athletes and fans from different parts of the world.
As the preparations for the 2028 Summer Olympics continue, excitement is building among sports enthusiasts and athletes alike. With the inclusion of these five sports, the stage is set for a truly diverse and captivating Olympic experience in Los Angeles in 2028.
