Jennifer Garner: Embracing Independence for My Children
Jennifer Garner, the well-known actress, and mother of three recently spoke about her parenting approach in an interview with Today. Garner, who shares three children with ex-husband Ben Affleck, opened up about her philosophy when it comes to raising her kids.
“I don’t know if I have an overarching philosophy,” Garner said. “I just think they’re so cool; I want to hear everything and be around them. But at the same time, if they’re suffering from a little bit of harmless neglect, that’s a problem. I think not.”
Garner emphasized the importance of allowing her children to live their own lives, saying, “Their lives are their own. I don’t try to live their lives and I don’t care if they see that I love my own life.”
When it comes to navigating the complexities of the digital age with her children, Garner admitted, “I have a child who is about to turn 18. Who really knows what my children do on the internet? I don’t judge. They are not on one of the social media platforms and I call that success. Who knows, this may change. You never know.”
This candid discussion about parenting comes after Ben Affleck, Garner’s ex-husband, publicly acknowledged that his alcohol problem was in part linked to their divorce. Affleck stated, “What I did was wrong. Everyone who went through the divorce process said, ‘Have we tried hard enough?’ We loved each other very much. We respected each other very much. My purpose was to say that I was actually drinking a lot at that time. The more unhappy you are, the more difficult it may be for work or marriage, your life becomes difficult.”
Garner’s reflections on parenting shed light on the challenges and decisions that come with raising children in the modern world.
