Kangal Dogs’ Physical Structure Altered by Seasonal Shift
Global warming is not only affecting natural ecosystems, but also the physical structures of animals, as seen in the case of the world-famous Kangal dogs. Known for their endurance and loyalty, Kangal dogs have recently shown visible changes in their coat structure due to climate change.
The thick and hard fur of Kangal dogs has started to yellow and thin due to rising temperatures. Expert Kangal Dog Breeder Hüseyin Yıldız explained that these dogs, which rely on their thick fur for protection in cold weather, are experiencing a decrease in their hair ratio.
Yıldız emphasized that the protection barrier of Kangal dogs has weakened as their fur has become thinner. He mentioned that the feather ratio has become much more sparse, leading to a loss of firmness and protection barrier in the dogs. The fine hair ratio of about 1-1.5 centimeters has become more prominent, making Kangals more vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
Moreover, the colors of Kangal dogs are also turning yellow due to hot weather. Yıldız noted that the dogs adapt their awareness of living according to the climate, reducing their mobility, increasing liquid consumption, and seeking cooler and more secluded places. This adjustment in behavior is part of the dogs’ smart and conscious nature, as they interact with their environment to their advantage.
