
Kazakh University Joins UN Resource Management Week in Europe

Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU) participated in the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Resource Management Week in Geneva, Switzerland from April 25-28. During the meeting, the Kazakh delegation announced the creation of a working group under the UNECE Committee on Sustainable Energy. The group will unite the efforts of the Central Asian region’s expert communities to implement energy transition and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). KBTU also announced the creation of a research group on superconductivity and new materials with the support of the Quantum Matter Group of the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge. The experts exchanged experiences in working in each region and discussed ideas on transforming sustainable resource management by 2030. Chokan Laumulin, a professor at KBTU and Deputy Chairman of the UNECE Committee on Sustainable Energy, moderated two sessions of the event and met with the Kazakh Permanent Representative to the UN Office at Geneva, Yerlan Alimbayev, to address common priorities. The event aimed to explore solutions for sustainable resource management and promote the SDGs.
