Kazakhstan Set to Host Five International Events for Event Tourism Growth

Kazakhstan Aims to Boost Event Tourism, Plans to Host Five Major International Events

The Kazakh Ministry of Tourism and Sports is on a mission to expand the country’s potential in event tourism. Nurbol Baizhanov, head of the ministry’s department for the implementation of systemic measures in the tourism sector, announced the plans to host five major international events this year at a briefing in Astana on April 10.

In the past three years, Kazakhstan has successfully hosted 21 international-level events. In 2024 alone, the country organized 14 international events, attracting 5,180 foreign delegates. Each participant spent an average of $4,000, contributing over $20.7 million in revenue.

According to Baizhanov, it is crucial to systematize events by holding them annually, adding them to the international events calendar, and promoting them actively to boost foreign tourist numbers. The ministry also proposed organizing large-scale events not only in major cities but also in regions.

Apart from event tourism, Kazakhstan also sees potential in developing business tourism. Astana is gearing up to host the 10th World Congress of Neurosurgical Societies, the International Expert Society Congress, and the IFLA World Library and Information Congress. These events are expected to bring over 4,000 delegates from 130 countries, with an estimated economic impact of nearly two million euros (US$2.2 million).

In 2024, Kazakhstan welcomed 15.3 million foreign visitors and saw an increase in domestic travelers reaching 10.5 million. To enhance tourism statistics, officials plan to utilize data from mobile network operators and tourist spending from bank transactions to understand tourist flows better and tailor marketing strategies accordingly.

This year, Astana is set to host the Alem Fest music festival featuring Craig David as the headliner. Additionally, the city will welcome the talented singer and actress Jennifer Lopez as part of her Up All Night Tour.

Kazakhstan’s commitment to hosting international events and strengthening its tourism sector showcases its dedication to becoming a prominent destination for visitors from around the world.
