Kazatomprom Expands Presence in European Market with Landmark Agreement with ČEZ
ASTANA – Kazatomprom, Kazakhstan’s national atomic company, has recently signed a significant agreement with ČEZ, a. s., a leading energy company in Central Europe. This landmark deal marks an expanded presence for Kazatomprom in the European market and strengthens its position in the global uranium market.
Under the terms of the agreement, Kazatomprom will supply natural uranium concentrates from Kazakhstan to cover approximately one-third of the uranium needs for Westinghouse-manufactured fuel assemblies at the Temelín nuclear power plant in the Czech Republic over the next seven years. This partnership not only enhances the energy security of the Czech Republic but also supports the plant’s role in providing clean and sustainable energy.
Speaking about the agreement, Kazatomprom Chief Commercial Officer Vladislav Baiguzhin stated, “With this new agreement, Kazatomprom continues to grow its footprint in the European market and advance its strategy of diversifying the sales portfolio. This is another important milestone in our mission to be a partner of choice for the global nuclear energy industry. As we build on our previous contracts, partnerships such as this one with ČEZ, a. s., allow us to support energy security in the region while advancing our shared goals of decarbonisation and sustainability.”
ČEZ, a. s., operates six nuclear reactors at the Dukovany and Temelin sites and supplies around 36% of the Czech Republic’s electricity needs. The official signing ceremony for the agreement took place at ČEZ’s headquarters in Prague and was attended by high-level representatives from both companies.
This deal with ČEZ is just one of the many strategic partnerships that Kazatomprom has established globally, showcasing its commitment to expanding its reach and diversifying its sales channels. The agreement with ČEZ not only strengthens Kazatomprom’s presence in the European market but also reinforces its position as a key player in the global uranium market.
