KDK Recommends Diversifying Communication in Child Meeting Centers
The Right to Establish Communication with Children from Different Cities
A father from Ağrı, who is currently going through a divorce, recently approached the KDK (The Constitutional Court of Turkey) requesting the opportunity to meet with his children as part of the legal arrangements for child delivery. He explained that his wife was uncooperative in allowing him to see their children.
The father also noted that his work obligations in a different province made it difficult for him to attend in-person meetings. Additionally, due to his children being young and not having personal phones, he requested that child interview centers provide the option to meet by phone.
In a decision made by the KDK, it was acknowledged that the situation of a parent living in a different province and having to take regular leave from work to establish a personal relationship with their child creates significant challenges. The decision emphasized the importance of having detailed regulations in place to facilitate communication and personal relationships between parents and children, especially in cases where the custodial parent and the other parent live in separate cities.
Furthermore, the KDK stressed that the right to establish a personal relationship between parents and children is a mutual right that must be respected. They recommended that legislative measures be taken into consideration to design a system that is easy, simple, and accessible for all parties involved.
