Bishkek Police Detain Player and Referee in Connection with Death at Kok Boru Match

The police in Bishkek have detained a 29-year-old player, A.Ch., and a 42-year-old referee, Sh.U., in connection with the death of Mirlan Srazhdinov. The press service of the Department of Internal Affairs of Leninsky district of Bishkek confirmed this information to 24.kg news agency.

Mirlan Srazhdinov, a 44-year-old player, tragically passed away during a kok boru match in Kozhomkul village (Voenno-Antonovka) on March 12. He was trying to pick up the goat carcass from the ground when another player’s horse struck him.

The capital’s Emergency Medicine Center informed 24.kg news agency that Srazhdinov had sustained severe injuries including an open craniocerebral injury, fractures of the skull base and frontal bone, an injury to the right eye, as well as fractures of the nose and upper jaw. Despite efforts, he succumbed to his injuries before medical help could arrive.

The sporting event was organized by the Federation of National Kok Boru Games and involved the Borulu team from Sokuluk and Burkut from Osh.

A criminal case has been initiated under the charge of “causing serious harm to health” according to the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. Both detainees have been placed in the temporary detention facility of the Main Department of Internal Affairs in Bishkek while further investigations and examinations are conducted.
