Kurum Announces Creation of Istanbul Taxi Brand at Drivers’ Meeting
Murat Kurum Makes Promises to Istanbul Taxi Drivers
Murat Kurum, candidate for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), recently attended the Taxi Drivers’ Meeting in Üsküdar, where he made several promises to the city’s hard-working taxi drivers and their trade. At this event, Üsküdar Mayor Hilmi Türkmen and AK Party Üsküdar District Chairman Erdem Demir joined Kurum, who was welcomed by Eyüp Aksu, President of the Chamber of Taxi Drivers and Tradesmen, and his accompanying delegation.
During his speech, Kurum stated his intention to unite the systems used by taxi drivers under the umbrella of the Central Taxi System, promising to provide an organized and streamlined experience for both taxi drivers and the people of Istanbul. Furthermore, he expressed his plans to create a more innovative and technology-intensive taxi culture as well as the establishment of an “Istanbul Taxi” brand that will serve as a mark of excellence within the industry.
Kurum’s words also touched on the perceived failings of the current CHP IMM administration in addressing the needs of taxi drivers and making regulatory decisions with real, positive impacts. He criticized the administration for viewing taxi drivers as a mere source of revenue rather than essential contributors to Istanbul’s transportation demands. According to Kurum, the current leadership’s policies have resulted in various challenges for taxi drivers and residents alike, prominently highlighting the greater need for transparent and practical governance in this area.
Moreover, Kurum emphasized that IMM’s plans to establish a taxi-operating company were ill-advised and reiterated his commitment to ensuring that taxis were seen primarily as a service to Istanbul citizens, not just a source of commercial gain. He underlined his intent to eliminate political posturing and misconceptions, promising a holistic approach that focused on real municipal concerns.
Kurum’s promises include plans to employ advanced technology and innovative solutions in the taxi industry, streamlining digital systems and improving the overall quality and availability of taxis through initiatives such as increasing public tenders and developing a shared brand identity – the Istanbul Taxi brand. He also committed to improving driver welfare through better regulations and increased opportunities for professional advancements, including cultural and interpersonal training programs.
Ultimately, if Kurum is elected as the mayor of Istanbul, his presence and attention to the needs of taxi drivers could signal a promising shift in how the industry is regulated and operated in the city. His commitment to fostering a mutually beneficial relationship between taxi drivers and the public, as well as introducing progressive policies, could greatly benefit this essential service sector, delivering better experiences for both drivers and passengers.
