Kyrgyzstan and Brunei Partner in Energy and Halal Industry
Bishkek – On February 7, 2025, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov met with Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Hassanal Bolkiah to discuss the prospects for bilateral cooperation and ways for its further development. The meeting highlighted the desire for interregional cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and ASEAN, in addition to bilateral political dialogue.
President Japarov shared information about ongoing reforms, modernization efforts, and the construction of social and economic facilities, as well as the active development of international transport corridors, including the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project. He also emphasized potential areas of partnership such as the energy industry, IT sector, and halal industry development, inviting Brunei investors to participate in energy and industrial projects in Kyrgyzstan.
Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah expressed confidence in the potential for cooperation between the two countries, both in bilateral and multilateral formats. He highlighted the importance of mutual support within the UN, and expressed readiness to strengthen economic cooperation, particularly in the tourism and education sectors. The Sultan also extended an invitation for President Japarov to visit Brunei officially.
In conclusion, both leaders affirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and implementing joint projects aimed at developing economic partnership. It is worth noting that Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah is one of the wealthiest monarchs in the world, with an estimated fortune of $20-30 billion. The meeting between President Japarov and Sultan Bolkiah sets a positive tone for future collaboration between Kyrgyzstan and Brunei.
