Leapmotor Approved for Import to Uzbekistan with Conditions

Chinese Company LeapMotor Granted Conditional Approval to Import Vehicles into Uzbekistan
The Agency for Technical Regulation and UzTest Center in Uzbekistan have conditionally approved the import of vehicles under the Leapmotor brand into the country. This approval comes after a second round of testing conducted on April 14 at a laboratory in Piskent yielded positive results.
In order to gain market access, Leapmotor must meet certain requirements. These include appointing an official representative in Uzbekistan who will be responsible for addressing any identified vehicle deficiencies and compensating consumers for damages. The company must also submit all required documentation for the type approval of each vehicle model imported under the Leapmotor trademark.
Leapmotor has also committed to conducting an internal review and assessment of the production processes and conditions at the factories manufacturing vehicles under their brand.
The approval comes after the suspension of conformity certificates for all Leapmotor models in late March due to electromagnetic noise levels exceeding permissible limits. However, a re-testing of a different unit of the Leapmotor C16 model on April 14 met regulatory standards.
It is important to note that the requirement to import new foreign vehicles exclusively through official dealers was reinstated in April 2024, despite being lifted by a presidential decree on January 1, 2023.
With this conditional approval, Leapmotor is one step closer to establishing an official dealership in Uzbekistan and providing their vehicles to consumers in the country.
