Lefke Civil Society Groups Rally in Gemikonağı
The Lefke region Civil Society Organizations Platform recently held a demonstration at the site of a tragic accident in Gemikonağı, where a young man named Naveed Akbar lost his life. The purpose of the demonstration was to raise awareness about the frequent occurrence of traffic accidents in the country and specifically in the Lefke region.
During the demonstration, participants reiterated their demand for necessary precautions to be taken at the scene of the accident and called for the construction of a protective barrier in the area. Teoman Oktay, the Coordinator of the Lefke region Civil Society Organizations Platform, highlighted that their previous protests had fallen on deaf ears and no measures had been taken by the relevant institutions.
Oktay vowed to continue pushing for the implementation of safety measures in the area and to keep the issue at the forefront of the agenda. He also expressed gratitude towards the General Directorate of Police for increasing patrols and checks in the region, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing human life.
Representatives from other associations present at the demonstration also voiced their support for the cause. The collective efforts of these organizations aim to prevent further tragedies and promote road safety in the Lefke region.
