Los Angeles Wildfire Sparks Evacuations

A new wildfire has broken out in Los Angeles, according to a report from Reuters. The fire started in Los Angeles County, California, and has already spread to more than 38 square kilometers in just five hours. Around 31,000 residents have been ordered to evacuate as a precautionary measure.
Rescuers have been working diligently to contain the fire, with efforts including partially evacuating the county jail in Castaic, south of the fire zone, which houses thousands of inmates.
Joe Tyler, the head of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, praised the work of rescuers in their efforts to control the blaze.
The wildfires that began in Los Angeles County on January 7 have been identified as the largest in the state’s history. Meteorologists attribute the rapid fire spread to dry and windy weather conditions. The total area affected by the fires has surpassed 16,000 hectares, and tragically, at least 25 people have lost their lives.
Authorities are continuing to monitor and respond to the situation as firefighters work tirelessly to contain and extinguish the flames.
