Madat Babayan Confesses to Role in Khojaly Massacre

Armenian Defendant Madat Babayan Admits to Involvement in Khojaly Massacre

In a shocking revelation during a session at the Baku Military Court today, defendant Madat Babayan confessed to participating in the infamous 1992 Khojaly massacre as part of the Armenian armed forces.

According to reports, Babayan admitted to being present in Khojaly on February 25 and 26, 1992, and stated that their group leader, Henrik Tamrazyan, had taken them there with the goal of driving Azerbaijanis out of the area.

During his testimony, Babayan disclosed that all orders in Khojaly were issued by Arkadi Shirinyan, also known as “Kholostoy”, with direct commands coming from Vanik Petrosyan. Shockingly, he revealed that orders were given to open fire on unarmed civilians, and both Vanik and Arkadi were responsible for mutilating people by cutting off fingers and ears.

The defendant further admitted that their unit entered Khojaly heavily armed, using armored vehicles, and confessed to participating in the killing of defenseless civilians. He expressed remorse by stating, “We were wrong.”

Babayan described witnessing approximately 150 bodies in Khojaly, including women, children, and the elderly. He mentioned that Armenian soldiers collected the corpses and loaded them into vehicles.

The trial of several Armenian citizens facing charges of war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and other serious offenses will resume on April 21. This shocking admission by Madat Babayan sheds light on the atrocities committed during the Khojaly massacre and emphasizes the importance of seeking justice for the victims.
