Madrid University Students Rally in Support of Palestine
Approximately 100 university students in Madrid city center took a stand in support of Palestine by blocking a road passing through the campus with their tents, halting transportation for 2 hours. The peaceful protest attracted attention as the students sang “Long Live Palestine” and formed a human chain by holding hands.
Despite police intervention to remove the demonstrators from the road, the students remained resilient in their support for the Palestinian cause. Two students, Uriol and Fatima, expressed their demands for an end to Israel’s genocide and ethnic cleansing, calling for a halt to the attacks.
Criticism was directed towards other countries such as Germany, France, and the USA for their violent treatment of university students who advocate for Palestine. The Spanish students emphasized the need for democratic values to be upheld and for peaceful expression of opinions to be respected.
The campus demonstrations that initially started at Columbia University in the USA have now evolved into a global movement, with protests spreading to universities in Europe and beyond. Despite the International Court of Justice’s decision to halt the attacks, the Israeli army continues with ground assaults in Gaza.
The devastating impact of Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip is evident, with thousands of Palestinians killed, including children and women, and many more injured. As the protests gain momentum around the world, the demand for an end to the violence and support for the Palestinian cause remains strong. Students continue to call on governments, including Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, to take action to stop the atrocities in Gaza.
