Massive Immigration Wave: Tens of Thousands Caught in Edirne in Just 8 Months
The fight against irregular migration in Edirne continues at full force, according to Governor Yunus Sezer. In a statement to journalists, Governor Sezer highlighted the measures taken to combat this issue, including the renewal of 300 kilometers of the border line road out of the total 345 kilometers. Additionally, border connection roads were reviewed and technological facilities like electro-optic towers were increased.
Sezer emphasized that inspections and controls were conducted at 107 points, 16 of which were fixed, to prevent irregular migration. He mentioned that in the past 8 months, 451 organizers were caught and 209 were arrested, showing a significant increase in arrests compared to the previous year.
A total of 655 vehicles, including boats and yachts, were seized in the fight against vehicles involved in migrant smuggling. Governor Sezer revealed that 12,791 illegal immigrants were caught as of August 31st this year.
Security forces have been enforcing strict inspections on the border and throughout the city, resulting in an 85 percent decrease in irregular immigrant traffic compared to last year. Governor Sezer also shared that 363 terrorist organization members attempting to escape to Bulgaria and Greece through the border were apprehended in the past 8 months.
