Ministry Warns iPhone and iPad Users of iOS Security Threat – BTK Launches Investigation
Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Issues Warning for Apple iOS Users
Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Ömer Fatih Sayan, has issued an important warning for users of Apple brand devices with iOS mobile operating system. Sayan has stated that the National Cyber Incident Response Center (USOM) has been actively working on vulnerabilities in iOS devices that have been publicly mentioned for some time.
According to Sayan, serious security vulnerabilities impacting iOS devices have been identified through extensive cyber threat intelligence studies conducted by USOM. Sayan emphasized the critical nature of these vulnerabilities, stating that they pose the risk of gaining full control of the devices and stealing user data. As a result of their work, 16 command and control servers were identified, published in the USOM malicious links list, and subsequently blocked. The Information Technologies and Communications Authority (BTK) has also requested a statement from Apple on the issue and initiated an investigation.
Sayan stressed that they are prepared to take urgent measures in collaboration with the international community and underscored the importance of applying serious sanctions against global cyber vulnerabilities. Combatting digital surveillance and cyber espionage is an integral part of national security, and Sayan recommended that citizens using iOS devices pay attention to the following security measures based on the results of USOM’s cyber threat intelligence studies.
The recommended security measures include upgrading the iOS operating system to the latest version, reviewing iMessage and FaceTime settings, ensuring account security with strong passwords and multi-factor authentication, being cautious of messages from suspicious or unknown individuals, avoiding the installation of applications from untrusted sources, and regularly checking permissions granted to applications. Additionally, users are advised to limit application access to sensitive data, enable wireless connectivity features and location services only when necessary, and prevent automatic identification of username and password information in the Safari web browser application.
Sayan expressed gratitude to the USOM teams for their critical work and assured that the process will continue to be monitored closely. It is recommended that Apple iOS users adhere to these security measures to protect their personal data and reduce the risk of potential cyber threats.
