MIT operation targets Azad Akıncı in Mahmur
Turkish intelligence agency MIT successfully neutralized a high-ranking PKK/KCK member, Azad AKINCI, who was on the red category of the wanted list for terrorism. MIT was able to track down AKINCI’s location in Mahmur, located 160 km from the Turkish border, by closely monitoring news sources. With a precise operation, Azad AKINCI was neutralized at the most opportune moment.
But who exactly is Azad AKINCI? He first became involved in the organization of the Özgür High School Youth Association, which was linked to the PKK/KCK, back in 2006. He was later arrested in 2008 for various crimes related to terrorist activities. In the following years, he took on various responsibilities within the organization, including leading roles in different regions and participating in important events such as congresses and logistics activities.
In 2016, Akinci participated in the PKK/KCK Youth Congress in Mahmur and in 2017, he was reportedly involved with the KCR unit in Iran. By 2023, he had risen to the position of the so-called Responsible of the PKK/KCK Mahmur General Secretariat.
Azad AKINCI’s elimination is seen as a significant blow to the PKK/KCK and a success for Turkish security forces in their ongoing fight against terrorism. The operation to neutralize him demonstrates the effectiveness and determination of MIT in targeting and eliminating threats to national security.
