Mongolian National Olympic Committee Launches Esports Commission

Mongolian National Olympic Committee Establishes Esports Commission

Esports, a rapidly growing industry that has captured the attention of millions worldwide, has now made its mark on the Olympic movement. In a groundbreaking move, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) organized the first-ever “Olympic Esports Week” in Singapore in 2023 and announced plans to host the “Esports Olympic Games” in Saudi Arabia in 2025.

In response to these global developments, the Mongolian National Olympic Committee (MNOC) has taken a proactive step by officially establishing its very own “Esports Commission.” The idea to create this commission was introduced by NOC President Battushig Batbold during the annual all members meeting on December 12, 2024. The primary goal of the commission is to support Mongolian esports teams and athletes in participating in IOC-recognized events, fostering collaboration among member sports federations, and building partnerships with key stakeholders.

Led by Mr. Battushig Batbold, an IOC Member and President of the MNOC, and Vice Chair Mr. Bat-Erdene Gankhuyag, the commission boasts members such as Mrs. Buyandelger Peljee, an MNOC Executive Board Member and Executive Committee Member of the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF), and Mr. Otgondalai Dorjnyambuu, a Rio 2016 bronze medalist and MNOC Executive Board Member. Other representatives from Mongolia’s NOC and esports community, including NOC secretary general Mr. E. Badar-Uugan, D. Batmunkh, A. Undral, Sh. Batbayar, and T. Khaliunaa, are also part of the commission.

Looking ahead, the MNOC Esports Commission aims to collaborate closely with the IOC Esports Commission, the Olympic Council of Asia, and the organizing committee for the 2025 Esport Games in Saudi Arabia. Together, they will work on developing strategic plans and operational roadmaps to advance the esports scene in Mongolia.

The inclusion of esports as a medal event in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, where the Mongolian national team won a silver medal, and the esports competitions at the East Asian Youth Games 2023 held in Ulaanbaatar further emphasize the growing influence of esports in Mongolia. These milestones signify a significant progression in Mongolia’s esports journey, setting the stage for more international success and recognition.
