
Motorcycle Riders Face 47 Thousand TL Penalty After Being Caught Speeding

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has announced a new action plan to prevent motorcycle accidents and ensure road safety. The plan includes deterrent penalties for drivers who violate traffic rules, such as running a red light multiple times in a year. Yerlikaya stated that drivers who commit this violation 6 times in a year will face a penalty of 80,000 pounds and risk having their driver’s license suspended.
The action plan, launched at the Istanbul Exhibition Center Motobike Istanbul 2025 Fair, carries the motto “One Rule, One Life” and aims to reduce the number of accidents involving motorcycles. Yerlikaya emphasized the importance of motorcycle safety, highlighting the passion that many people have for riding motorcycles.
With over 675,000 personnel working across Türkiye, the Ministry of Interior is committed to ensuring peace and safety on the roads. Yerlikaya shared statistics on the increasing number of motorcycles in the country, reaching 6.3 million in 2024, and stressed the need for increased traffic controls to prevent accidents.
The Minister highlighted the concerning rise in motorcycle accidents and fatalities, urging drivers to adhere to traffic laws and regulations. He emphasized the importance of wearing helmets and following road safety guidelines to protect lives.
Yerlikaya also revealed the proposed penalties for various traffic violations, including driving without a license and running red lights. The action plan aims to deter risky behavior on the roads and improve overall road safety.
In addition to the penalties, Yerlikaya announced plans for new regulations related to motocurya, with Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu set to announce the details soon.
The action plan is set to be sent to Parliament for approval, with the goal of reducing motorcycle accidents and creating safer roads for all. The Motobike Istanbul 2025 Fair will continue to educate and engage motorcycle enthusiasts until March 15th.
