Murderous Minister Vows to Resist Ceasefire Calls
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has once again voiced his opposition to the recent call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza by the US, Egypt, and Qatar. In a statement on his social media account, Smotrich emphasized his respect for the United States’ support and protection of Israel, but also urged the US to respect Israeli democracy and security decisions made by its elected officials.
Smotrich argued that just as the United States would not cave to threats from groups like al-Qaeda, Israel would not yield to external pressure that could put its security at risk. He labeled the call for a ceasefire as a “surrender agreement to Hamas” and vowed to vigorously oppose any agreement that would endanger Israel’s security.
White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby responded to Smotrich’s opposition, calling it false, scandalous, and absurd. He dismissed Smotrich’s claims that the ceasefire agreement would be a surrender to Hamas or that prisoners should not be exchanged for prisoners.
Meanwhile, amidst the diplomatic debate over the ceasefire, the Israeli military launched an airstrike on a school in Gaza, where thousands of displaced Palestinians were seeking refuge. The attack occurred during morning prayers and resulted in the death of at least 100 people, with harrowing images emerging from the scene of the devastation.
As tensions continue to escalate in the region, the call for peace and humanitarian aid remains urgent, with the international community closely monitoring the situation in Gaza.
