Nazarbayev University Rises in Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 for Education Studies

Astana – Nazarbayev University (NU) has made significant progress in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2025 by subject, with Education Studies now ranking in the top 200 globally, according to NU’s press service report on Jan. 22.

NU is now ranked in nine out of THE’s 11 subject clusters, with four clusters placed among the top 500 universities worldwide. These rankings evaluate institutions based on criteria such as teaching quality, research environment, industry connections, and internationalization.

In 2023, NU made its debut in THE rankings, initially placing in the 501–600 range. Since then, Education Studies has advanced from the 251–300 range to the 176–200 bracket, while Medical and Health rose from 501–600 to 401–500. Additionally, Engineering, Social Sciences, and Arts and Humanities are also included in NU’s programs ranked within the top 500.

The growth in rankings can be attributed to NU’s Graduate School of Education (GSE) and the School of Medicine. The GSE, established in 2012, partners with prestigious global institutions like the University of Cambridge and the University of Pennsylvania to offer cutting-edge master’s and doctoral programs.

The School of Medicine, founded in 2015 in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, plays a crucial role in modernizing Kazakhstan’s healthcare system by integrating research, innovation, education, and patient care.

NU Vice President and Dean of the School of Medicine, Massimo Pignatelli, expressed pride in the university’s recent achievements, including international accreditations for the Doctor of Medicine academic program and the University Medical Center (UMC) by Eurasian Centre for Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education and Health Care (ECAQA) and Joint Commission International (JCI) respectively.

NU reaffirms its commitment to reaching its goal of being among the top 300 universities globally by 2030.
