Nearly 400 Young Kyrgyzstanis Sent Home from Syria

Minister of Labor, Social Security, and Migration of Kyrgyzstan, Ravshanbek Sabirov, recently met with the representative of the Global Fund, Irina Ulmasova-Olive, to discuss the situation of women and children from Kyrgyzstan who were repatriated from the war zone. This meeting was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Labor.

The discussions focused on the repatriation efforts that have been undertaken by the government, particularly the return of minors from Iraq in March 2021 as part of the Meerim humanitarian mission. Additionally, citizens who were in camps in Syria have also been brought back to Kyrgyzstan following the instructions of President Sadyr Japarov.

Sabirov highlighted that a total of six stages of repatriation from Syria have been completed, with the final stage taking place in the summer of 2024. After undergoing various measures such as medical, rehabilitation, theological, and pedagogical support, the repatriates were successfully reintegrated into their families.

It was reported that a total of 544 citizens of Kyrgyzstan, including 396 minors, have been returned through these repatriation efforts. Sabirov also shared that the Cabinet of Ministers has approved a five-year program for the rehabilitation and reintegration of returnees, which has been developed based on international experience and successful practices from Central Asian and European countries.

These efforts are crucial in ensuring the well-being and successful reintegration of those who have been affected by conflicts abroad. The government of Kyrgyzstan remains committed to supporting its citizens and providing them with the necessary assistance to rebuild their lives.
