Number of Kyrgyzstanis Injured in Ust-Luga Teahouse Fire Rises

Bishkek – 24.kg news agency reported on February 18, 2025, that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan has confirmed an increase in the number of Kyrgyzstanis injured in a fire at a cafe in Ust-Luga village in Leningrad Oblast, Russia.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the fire erupted in a private cafe, causing five Kyrgyzstanis to sustain burns of varying degrees. Two of them were transferred to Leningrad Regional Hospital for further examination on February 17, while the remaining three received medical treatment at Gatchina Regional Hospital and were discharged for outpatient care.

The Consulate General is closely monitoring the situation. Previously, it was reported that a total of six individuals were injured in the fire, with three of them being citizens of Kyrgyzstan who were hospitalized with burns ranging from 32-50 percent of their face, body, and upper respiratory tract.

The Investigative Committee of Russia for Leningrad Oblast has taken the owner of the teahouse in Ust-Luga into custody. He is suspected of providing unsafe services that resulted in serious bodily harm to the victims.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding safety standards in public establishments to prevent such tragic events from occurring.
