Okuu Kitebi Publishing House in Need of Staff
On August 24, 2024, the Okuu Kitebi Publishing House state institution in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, revealed that they are facing a shortage of essential staff such as proofreaders, designers, layout designers, and artists. With only 11 people on staff, the director of the institution, Ilyas Sarybaev, highlighted the need to attract specialists on a short-term basis to resolve the situation.
In an interview with the 24.kg news agency, Sarybaev mentioned that adapting textbooks could potentially alleviate the need for a large workforce. He cited examples of international practices, such as Singapore adapting foreign textbooks, including those from Cambridge.
Established in February 2024, the Okuu Kitebi Publishing House aims to enhance the quality and content of national textbooks while increasing their accessibility in schools. The institution was formed through the merger of Zhany Kitep, which focused on textbook rental, and the Republican Scientific and Practical Center Okuu Kitebi, which specialized in the expert examination of manuscripts.
The challenges faced by the Okuu Kitebi Publishing House underscore the importance of addressing staffing issues to achieve their educational goals effectively. By exploring innovative solutions and leveraging international best practices, the institution can overcome hurdles and continue its mission of improving education through high-quality textbooks.
