Olympic Medals Surge After Slow Start
Hungarian athletes have once again made their mark on the world stage, with three athletes standing out at the 2024 Paris Olympics over the weekend. The standout performer was Kristóf Milák, who clinched the gold medal in the 100m butterfly event. Milák, who had previously won the 200m butterfly event in Tokyo three years ago, showed his prowess once again by securing the top spot in Paris.
In addition to Milák’s success, hammer thrower Bence Halász also made waves by claiming the silver medal. The Szombathely native put up a strong performance, ultimately finishing in second place with a throw of 79.97 meters. This achievement marked the tenth Olympic medal in Hungarian hammer throwing history.
Veronika Major also shone at the Olympics, winning the bronze medal in the women’s pistol final. Major put up a stellar performance in the sport pistol final, prevailing over her competitors to secure the bronze medal.
With a total of 8 medals, Hungary currently ranks 12th in the Olympic medal table. The country has secured medals in fencing, swimming, shooting, and athletics, placing ahead of countries such as Brazil, Spain, and Sweden. The United States leads the medal table, followed by the People’s Republic of China and France.
