VakıfBank’s Star Volleyball Player Paola Egonu to Leave the Team
Paola Egonu, the star player of VakıfBank’s women’s volleyball team, will be leaving the team at the end of the current season. The announcement was made by Giovanni Guidetti, the head coach of VakıfBank, who confirmed the news of their separation to Italy’s Corriere Torino newspaper.
Guidetti expressed his regret that he could not keep Egonu in the team, despite his exceptional performance. The coach stated that Egonu had come to Istanbul to improve her game and had achieved success while being loved by the people there. He admitted that it was difficult for him to let her go, but he respected her decision and wished her the best for the future.
Egonu, an Italian setter cross, has produced 379 points in 21 games in the league stage of the Sultans League this year, contributing to her team with 22 blocks and 17 aces. She will be playing her last game with the VakıfBank shirt against Eczacıbaşı Dynavit in the Champions League final, which will be held in Turin on 20 May at 20:00.
VakıfBank has been one of the most successful volleyball teams in Turkey, winning numerous domestic and international titles since its establishment in 1986. The team’s fans are deeply saddened by Egonu’s departure, but they have expressed their gratitude and admiration for her contributions to the team during her time in Istanbul.
