Penalty Announced for Teacher Accused of Sexually Abusing 6 Students
A classroom teacher at a private school in the Kartepe district, identified only as MA, has been accused of sexually abusing 6 female students during the 2023-2024 school year. The incidents allegedly occurred at different times, prompting authorities to take action. MA was detained on January 7 and subsequently arrested on January 8.
The Public Prosecutor has prepared an indictment stating that MA is accused of committing aggravated sexual abuse against children under the age of 12 and using threats to intimidate them. In response to the charges, MA denied the accusations and highlighted that he has been married for 22 years and has one child. MA stated, “I have been a classroom teacher at a private school for 3 years. We were encouraged to show more affection towards the students and to be actively involved in school activities due to the nature of the special school.”
The prosecutor has requested a total of 204 years and 5 months of imprisonment for MA, based on the severity and nature of the alleged crimes. The charges include ‘chained child sexual abuse’ with regards to 4 of the children, factoring in MA’s position as an educator and the abuse of influence derived from his public duty. The requested sentences range from 15 years and 4 months to 2 years and 6 months for each child involved. The case has been accepted by the Kocaeli 1st High Criminal Court, with the trial set to commence on July 10th.
