President Novak Commends Egyptian Christians’ Perseverance
Hungarian President Katalin Novák recently met with Coptic Pope Tavadros II during her official visit to Egypt. This meeting was part of a series of discussions and engagements that President Novák has been having with religious leaders in the region. She is also scheduled to hold talks with Pope Francis in Dubai after her address at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28).
During her meeting with Coptic Pope Tavadros II, President Novák emphasized Hungary’s Christian roots and the prominent role that Christianity continues to play in the country. She stressed the importance of Christianity in uniting Europe and promoting diversity within a common cultural framework.
President Novák also expressed her admiration for the peaceful coexistence of Muslims and Christians in Egypt and commended the efforts of Coptic Pope Tavadros II in promoting dialogue and harmony between the two communities.
Furthermore, President Novák highlighted the significance of families and discussed the demographic challenges faced by Hungary. She expressed her desire to understand how to encourage young Hungarians to have children and start families.
In addition to her discussions with Coptic leaders, President Novák also met with survivors of a terrorist attack on a church in Cairo and visited the site of the attack. She expressed her appreciation for the care and assistance that the survivors received during their rehabilitation in Budapest.
President Novák’s visit to Egypt also included a trip to Giza on a Hungarian-made train set, demonstrating the cooperation and partnership between Hungary and Egypt.
