Pride of Hungary: President Sulyok’s Reflections
President Tamás Sulyok of Hungary had a significant meeting in Rome on Friday with Fra John Dunlap, Grand Master of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. The meeting took place at the Magistral Palace, where Sulyok extended an invitation to the Grand Master to visit Budapest, which Dunlap graciously accepted, as reported by the presidential Sándor Palace to MTI.
In a statement following the meeting, it was highlighted that Hungary is proud of its thousand-year history and its deep Christian roots. The country has a rich history of connections with the Order of Malta, spanning back many centuries. The Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta has a long-standing tradition of helping those in need, from East German refugees to victims of various crises, including the recent conflict in Ukraine.
President Sulyok also had the honor of meeting with Pope Francis during his visit to Vatican City. He was present at the pope’s private audience with Hungarian National Pilgrimage participants before attending the closing holy mass of the pilgrimage.
The meeting between President Sulyok and Grand Master Dunlap solidifies the strong ties between Hungary and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, emphasizing the importance of continuing to work together to provide assistance and support to those in need.
