Protesters attempt to breach Saraçhane’s IMM building

Dozens of protesters gathered in front of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) building in Saraçhane to show their support for Ekrem Imamoglu, the President of IMM, who was detained in connection with corruption and terror investigations.
Some demonstrators attempted to march towards Taksim, but due to police intervention, they redirected their efforts towards the IMM building. A few demonstrators even tried to breach the barricades in front of the building, causing tension with security guards.
During the protest, chants calling for freedom and justice were heard, with some protesters shouting slogans like “Ozgur Gelsene, Pepper Gas Yesene” and “Ozgur out, the people in.”
The situation escalated when some activists attacked the police with water bottles and torches, leading to injuries among both the protesters and law enforcement officers. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that six policemen were injured during the unauthorized demonstration in Saraçhane.
The demonstration was a response to the ongoing corruption and terror investigations against the IMM, which has sparked controversy and raised concerns among the public. As the protesters continue to demand transparency and accountability from the authorities, the situation remains tense outside the IMM building in Saraçhane.
