Public Readiness for Nuclear Power Plant Referendum in Kazakhstan: National Survey Results
ASTANA—The Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies recently released the findings of a telephone survey conducted by the Democracy Institute, which assessed public readiness to participate in the upcoming referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant scheduled for October 6.
According to the survey results, 62% of respondents have expressed their intention to vote in the referendum, demonstrating a strong civic position. On the other hand, 19.3% of respondents stated that they do not plan to participate in the vote, while 18.7% remain undecided.
The majority of respondents, amounting to 72.9%, are in favor of the construction of a nuclear power plant. Conversely, 22.3% of respondents expressed opposition to the idea, while 4.8% remained unsure about their stance on the matter.
The telephone survey was conducted from September 13 to September 26 and gathered responses from 1,200 individuals aged 18 and above across the country.
The results of the survey provide valuable insights into public opinion regarding the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, showcasing a diverse range of perspectives among the population. The upcoming referendum will serve as a pivotal moment for the nation as it determines the future of this significant infrastructure project.
