Putting Families First: The Importance of Social Policy
Fidesz MEP Ádám Kósa stressed the importance of strengthening families to address social policy challenges during the European Parliament’s “Roadmap to a Social Europe: two years after Porto” plenary debate. Kósa emphasized respecting the principle of subsidiarity, the complexities of each nation-state, and the competencies of member states. He cautioned that current debates and resolution in the opposite direction. Kósa clarified that Hungary has developed a distinct support system for families, as it believes that a strategy to raise birth rates is the basis of social sustainability and progress. Kósa underlined the necessity of member states enjoying freedom of choice to ensure successful social and employment policies. Eighty percent of Hungarians believe that motherhood and a career are compatible, although it is a challenging task.
