Rail Travel Disrupted Between Budapest and Munich, Salzburg, and Zurich Due to Flood Damage – Transfer Needed
Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) has announced major changes to international rail travel due to extensive flood damage. The rail line between Vienna and Salzburg requires months of repairs, affecting international train schedules starting from 10 October.
Trains that usually run beyond Vienna to destinations like Salzburg, Munich, and Zurich will now terminate in Vienna. Passengers will need to transfer to other trains to reach their final destinations. Flood-related damage between Vienna and Sankt Pölten has led to these restrictions and substantial modifications to the timetable.
From Budapest, all Railjet trains will only operate as far as Vienna, with Railjets from destinations beyond Vienna departing from there towards Budapest. Hourly Railjet services will continue between Vienna and Salzburg, with an additional travel time of 30–60 minutes due to transfers and schedule changes.
The Kálmán Imre EuroNight train will continue its full route without transfers, except on specific dates. Temporary timetable changes will be in place from 10 October to 14 December, with additional schedule or route changes on certain days. Detailed timetable information for Hungarian-Austrian long-distance trains can be found in a provided PDF file, and further information is available on the ÖBB website.
