Rediscovering the Beauty of the Buttress at Buda Castle’s Western Gardens
The buttress of the Western Gardens at the astonishing Buda Castle has undergone a stunning renewal, bringing it back to its original beauty. The Palota Street, which connects Dózsa György Square and the Buda Castle, was designed in the 1880s by Miklós Ybl as a replacement for the steep road from the Tabán.
The serpentine path leading to Castle Hill is supported by several buttresses to ensure stability. The National Hauszmann Programme’s Facebook page shared that the renovation project includes the renewal of the Western Gardens beneath the Palace of Archduke Joseph. This garden will soon be open to the public, and a third underground garage will be created to provide more parking spaces in the area.
The structural construction of the Eastern buttress on Palota Street has been completed, and it now features a new surface of Süttő limestone. Additionally, a cast iron handrail reminiscent of the Ybl handrail style has been installed on Palota Street, further enhancing its historical charm.
