Renewal of Sewer Lines Underway in Nicosia – BRTK
The Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB) is taking steps to improve the city’s sewage infrastructure by renewing sewer lines in two avenues and one street. The project, known as the “Nicosia Old Main Carrier Line Renewal Project (Trunk E)”, will focus on Mehmet Akif Street (Dereboyu), Bedrettin Demirel Street, and Gültekin Şengör Street.
Following the 4.5 million Euro (156 Million TL) “Partial Hamitköy and Dumlupınar Sewage Project” signed in April, LTB is working on the “Nicosia Old Main Carrier Line Renewal Project (Trunk E)” with EU financing through UNDP. Signatures for the project were recently signed in Mehmet Vahip Meeting Hall.
The project aims to renew the entire main carrier line, which was originally built in 1986 and is now in need of replacement. Representatives from UNDP Cyprus and MBF Yapı İnşaat Ticaret A.Ş., the contractor company, were present at the signing ceremony.
LTB President Mehmet Harmancı, European Commission Structural Reform Support General Directorate Deputy General Director Judit Rozsa, and UNDP Cyprus Director Jakhongir Khaydarov all emphasized the importance of the project for Nicosia and the wider region. They highlighted the significance of improving infrastructure for the city’s present and future development.
The project will involve replacing worn-out pipes with modern materials, ensuring a long-lasting and safe sewage infrastructure. Additionally, house connections will be upgraded to meet current standards, addressing environmental concerns and improving overall sanitation.
Overall, the “Nicosia Old Main Carrier Line Renewal Project (Trunk E)” is seen as a vital initiative for the city of Nicosia and the entire island of Cyprus. It aims to enhance water and hygiene accessibility, benefiting all residents and visitors to the capital.
