
Republican Assembly Committee Discusses Draft Laws on Political Affairs and Defense

The Republican Assembly’s Law, Political Affairs, Foreign Relations and Defense Committee held a meeting today under the leadership of UBP Deputy Yasemi Öztürk. The committee discussed several bills on its agenda, as reported by the Parliament Press Office.
The meeting began with a discussion on the “Environment (Amendment) Bill”, with plans to continue work on this bill at the next session. Additionally, four separate bills related to “Road and Traffic Crimes Without a Case and Penalty Points (Amendment)” were combined into one bill and will be reviewed under the title of “Combined Road and Traffic Crimes without a Case and Penalty Points (Amendment) Bill” in the future.
Moreover, two bills concerning “Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic (Amendment)” and “1974 Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic (Amendment)” were merged into the “Combined Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Bill” for ongoing deliberation in upcoming meetings. The committee also examined the “Carriage of Passengers and Goods by Motor Vehicles (Inspection) (Amendment) Draft” and decided to proceed with further work on this draft.
Deputy Chairman of the Committee, CTP Deputy Ongun Talat, UBP Deputy Fırtına Karanfil and Hasan Küçük, CTP Deputy Ürün Solyalı, CTP Deputy Fide Kürşat, and Independent Deputy Ayşegül Baybars were present at the meeting. Representatives from various organizations, such as the TRNC Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Traffic Department, Environment Department, Security Forces Command, General Directorate of Police, TRNC Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Industry, attended as guests and shared their viewpoints during the session.
Overall, the committee’s discussion and evaluation of these bills aim to address important issues related to the environment, road and traffic crimes, motor vehicles, and passenger and goods transportation by motor vehicles in the TRNC.
