Restored Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque Opens in Shusha

President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the inauguration of the newly restored Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque in the city of Shusha in Azerbaijan. The president and his family were given a tour of the mosque and informed about the various restoration works carried out by a consortium of firms from Azerbaijan, Italy and Turkey under the supervision of Austria’s Wehdorn Architekten company. The project was financed by Pasha Holding.
The mosque was originally built by famous architect Karbalayi Safikhan Garabaghi and restoration works were carried out as per the original design of the mosque. The restoration project was completed in late 2021 and is a significant achievement in the ongoing efforts to restore Shusha’s cultural heritage sites.
In addition to the inauguration of the mosque, President Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva also attended an exhibition dedicated to the life and works of Mir Mohsun Navvab Garabaghi, an encyclopedic scientist of the 19th century. The exhibition was held in the madrasa located on the territory of the mosque.
The restoration of the Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque is a testament to Azerbaijan’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage sites and promoting its rich history to the world.
