Russia Eases Process for Expats to Obtain Residence Permits
The Federation Council of Russia has approved a new law that simplifies the process for compatriots-repatriates to obtain Russian residence permits. This law applies to individuals who have received the status of a participant in the state program of assistance for voluntary resettlement to Russia.
According to RIA Novosti, Russian residence permits will now be issued to these citizens and their family members without the need to obtain a temporary residence permit. Instead, they will only need to undergo mandatory state dactyloscopy, provide photographs, and submit medical documents confirming their medical examination.
Applications for residence permits can be submitted to a diplomatic mission or consular office of the Russian Federation in the country where the application for the state resettlement program was originally filed.
Furthermore, the new law requires that information on foreign citizens and stateless individuals be recorded in information systems using Cyrillic spelling. Surnames and names from identity documents will be uniformly translated from Latin to Cyrillic, as mandated by the Russian government.
The law will come into effect on the day of its official publication, streamlining the process for obtaining Russian residence permits for compatriots-repatriates.
