Ambassador of Kyrgyz Republic meets with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister following incident in Moscow bathhouse
Bishkek – 10:09, 19 April 2025 – The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Russian Federation, Kubanychbek Bokontaev, recently met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Galuzin, to discuss the concerning incident involving Kyrgyzstanis at a Moscow bathhouse complex.
The incident which occurred on April 10th sparked a widespread public outcry, leading the head of the Kyrgyz diplomatic mission to express his concern and urge the Russian side to consider the issue objectively and fairly.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Kyrgyz-Russian relations in the spirit of alliance and strategic partnership. They also exchanged views on upcoming foreign policy contacts at various levels within the framework of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
The incident in question involved a mass detention of natives and citizens of Kyrgyzstan in the Bodrost bathhouse in Moscow, where violence was reportedly used. A video circulating on social media showed security officers and unknown individuals with red armbands beating men, forcing them to crawl into a room where other detainees were already lying down.
In response, the Foreign Ministry of Kyrgyzstan summoned Russian Ambassador Sergei Vakunov and handed him a note requesting information on the reasons for the operation by law enforcement agencies and the use of force against citizens. The Russian Interior Ministry claimed that the police did not engage in “illegal actions” against Kyrgyzstanis.
The meeting between Ambassador Bokontaev and Deputy Minister Galuzin highlights the importance of addressing such incidents and working together to ensure the safety and rights of all individuals involved. The two countries are committed to maintaining strong diplomatic relations and fostering cooperation in various areas for the benefit of both nations.
