Russia Increases Direct Investment in Kyrgyzstan by 24 Percent
In a recent report by the Russian Embassy in Bishkek, it was revealed that Russia has increased its direct investment in Kyrgyzstan by 24 percent. This significant rise in foreign direct investments (FDI) from Russia to the Kyrgyz Republic has been noted in the first six months of 2024.
The total volume of FDI from Russia to Kyrgyzstan now stands at $108.3 million, marking a 24.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The Russian Federation now accounts for almost a quarter of the total FDI inflow to Kyrgyzstan, with the total FDI volume for January-June 2024 reaching $462.2 million, a 7.7 percent increase.
The majority of FDI is being directed towards manufacturing enterprises, wholesale and retail trade, mining, financial intermediation and insurance, as well as information technology and communications. Bishkek received the largest share of FDI at 49.6 percent, followed by the Chui region, Jalal-Abad, and Talas.
The main investor countries in Kyrgyzstan remain China, Russia, and Turkey, with Russia taking the lead in increasing its investments in various sectors of the Kyrgyz economy. This boost in direct investment from Russia is seen as a positive development for Kyrgyzstan’s economic growth and bilateral relations between the two countries.
