Man Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison for Sexual Abuse of 15-year-old Girl in Turkey
A man named Murat Yerlikaya has been sentenced to a total of six years in prison for sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl in Turkey. The incident took place on February 18 in Çiftlik Mahallesi of Ilkadım district. Yerlikaya knocked on the door of an apartment under the pretext of collecting donations for an association. The teenage girl, named ZE, opened the door after her parents had gone to work. Yerlikaya asked the girl for water and, after a brief conversation, sexually abused her.
ZE reported the incident to her parents after they returned from work. The family complained to the police and Murat Yerlikaya was caught based on DNA found on the glass from which he drank water and on camera recordings. He was taken into custody and later arrested by the judgeship. A lawsuit was filed against Yerlikaya at the Samsun 1st High Criminal Court on charges of sexual abuse of a child and violating the immunity of the house.
During the court proceedings, Murat Yerlikaya denied the allegations but the court board sentenced him to a total of six years in prison, five years for child sexual abuse and one year for violating the immunity of the house.
The teenage girl’s mother, GE, who filed a complaint against Yerlikaya, spoke about the incident and said, “When I saw my daughter, she was crying. She said she thought her father had come and opened the door. He asked my daughter for water. My daughter took the water and sat it next to her. She started harassing me when she was with my daughter.”
The incident highlights the ongoing issue of sexual abuse in Turkey and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. It is crucial for individuals, families, and communities to speak out against such crimes and to take appropriate action to ensure justice for survivors.
