Shanghai Electric in Talks to Supply Turbines for Uzbekistan’s Nuclear Plant

A trilateral meeting held at CNOS, a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), recently brought together representatives from Uzbekistan’s Uzatom Agency, Russia’s Rosatom, and China’s Shanghai Electric. The meeting focused on assessing Shanghai Electric’s manufacturing capabilities for turbine equipment and exploring potential adaptations for a nuclear power plant project in Uzbekistan.
Discussions during the meeting revolved around the development, production, and delivery of equipment for the non-nuclear island of the NPP in accordance with established technical standards. Technical aspects such as the specific characteristics of the required technological equipment were thoroughly examined.
An important proposal made during the meeting was the possibility of signing a trilateral agreement between Uzatom, Rosatom, and CNNC. This agreement would clearly outline CNNC’s role and responsibilities in the construction of the nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan, marking a significant advancement in the project.
The construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan is a key initiative aimed at boosting the country’s energy security and supporting sustainable development. The Uzatom Agency, with the collaboration of international partners, is actively working towards project implementation, with a focus on integrating advanced technologies and partnering with trusted equipment suppliers.
Shanghai Electric, a leading manufacturer of power and turbine equipment in China, has a wealth of experience in supplying equipment for nuclear and thermal power plants. The company has supplied equipment for numerous nuclear power plants, showcasing its product range that includes turbogenerators with capacities ranging from 50 to 1,240 MW. This collaboration between international partners signifies a significant step towards achieving the goals of the nuclear power plant project in Uzbekistan.
