Silkroad Innovation Hub: Connecting Central Asia with Silicon Valley

Stanford University Graduate Launches Platform to Connect Central Asian Startups with Silicon Valley
Asror Arabjonov, a graduate of Stanford University and a native of Uzbekistan, has partnered with a colleague from Kazakhstan to launch the “Silkroad Innovation Hub” platform. This platform aims to connect startups from Central Asia, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, and Türkiye with Silicon Valley.
In an interview with Kun.uz, Arabjonov discussed how IT enterprises in Uzbekistan could collaborate with Silicon Valley and the potential for increasing IT exports. He emphasized the importance of connecting tech companies in the region and highlighted the need for a unified platform for startups to network and attract venture capital.
The platform, launched about 7-8 months ago, works with startup founders from five Central Asian countries, Mongolia, Azerbaijan, and Türkiye. It aims to establish a community of startup founders and facilitate their arrival in Silicon Valley. Arabjonov pointed out that this platform provides a valuable opportunity for founders to share information and build connections. By connecting with key industry players in Silicon Valley, startups can streamline their entry into the US market.
While Arabjonov acknowledged the significance of Silicon Valley as a leading IT hub, he also emphasized the potential for other countries, such as Uzbekistan, to establish their own IT hubs. He urged for stronger collaboration between IT companies in Uzbekistan and major tech companies in Silicon Valley, citing the goal of generating $5 billion in IT services for the world market by 2030.
He also highlighted the need for startups to address larger and faster-growing markets, rather than solely focusing on their local market. Arabjonov encouraged startups to think globally and offer solutions to global problems, tapping into areas such as artificial intelligence and product services.
In addition to building a platform for startup founders to network and access resources, Arabjonov and his partner are also working on venture funds to support startups and foster innovation in the region.
The launch of the “Silkroad Innovation Hub” represents a significant step towards bridging the gap between Central Asian startups and the opportunities in Silicon Valley. With a focus on collaboration and global innovation, this platform has the potential to empower startups in the region and drive growth in the IT sector.
